One of the first kind of lithographed labels coming out of San Francisco in the 1870s and 1880s, were salmon can labels, for the fisheries of the Northwest and Alaska, adn, California! By 1896, there were hundreds of brands being used in profusion. There are dozens of serious salmon can label collectors, and you never know where another batch of labels will be found by one of them. One excelent place to go, if you are interested in salmon labels, is the Astoria Oregon Maritime Museum, which houses a wonderful, big collection.
